Use Of Your iPad

All WCPS high school students will receive an iPad as part of the eSMART initiative in the classroom.

Students:  Please remember you are responsible for anything and everything that happens on and to the school issued iPads.  The iPad is checked out to you, so do not let anyone use your iPad for any reason.

Backing Up Your iPad
Use the following links to make sure your iPad is backed up and working properly. Even if you are not using Keynote, Pages, or Notability this semester, take a few minutes to go through these steps.  You may need to use these apps in future classes.
Once you have done these three steps, you do not have to do them again.
  1. Setting Up Pages and Keynote to Backup to iCloud
  2. Setting Up Notability to Back Up to Google Drive and iCloud
  3. Setting Up Photos and Videos to Back Up to Google Drive

Follow these steps to back up your iPad to iCloud.  We suggest backing up your iPad a couple of times a week.
  1. Connect it to a power source.
  2. Connect it to a Wi-Fi.
  3. Lock the iPad screen (press the power button once).
  4. Depending on the size of the files on your iPad, the backup could take at least 30 minutes to complete.

Student Email
With the WCSD Mail, students can only send and receive emails within the Walton County School District.
  • For security reasons, students will be prompted for the Exchange (WCSD Mail) password (student ID number) every few weeks or so. You will be prompted to type it in two times.
  • The staff often uses school email to communicate important information to students, so you should make a habit of checking your school email every day.

Wi-Fi Off Campus
CLICK HERE for directions on how to access Wi-Fi on your iPad off campus.

Taking Google Surveys on the iPad
Students are often asked to take school surveys using their iPads.  To take the surveys, students have to be logged into Safari with their school email account.  To make sure Safari is logged in correctly, CLICK HERE.

Settings
Do not change any of the settings on the iPad especially the Apple ID password. These settings are in place to make sure the iPad functions correctly.

Apps and App Store
The App Store is open to students, but students can only download 4+ rated apps.

Notability, Pages, iMovie, and Keynote have been purchased for WCSD students and are available in the App Store.

When you get the iPad, go ahead and download the following apps:  Schoology, Infinite Campus, Google Drive, Destiny Quest, and Follett Brytewave.

WCSD Portal
There is an icon on the iPad called Portal.  Tap on that icon to access numerous helpful web resources for students.

HelpDesk
If students have issues with their iPads, they can go to the iPad HelpDesk office in the Media Center for assistance.  Students can also submit a HelpDesk ticket by going to https://portal.walton.k12.ga.us/helpdesk (or tapping on the Portal icon on the iPad and choosing HelpDesk).  Someone from the Media Center staff will respond to the requests.

Schoology
For helpful tips on using Schoology, CLICK HERE.
For help logging into the Schoology app, CLICK HERE.

Student Surveys Using Google Forms
Most of the student surveys at LHS are created using Google Forms.  Students must be logged into their school Google accounts to open the surveys.  CLICK HERE for login information.

Additional Information
If students need to charge their iPads, they can bring them to the Media Center to charge them.

When students receive the school issued iPads, they will need to check to make sure the iPad is working properly.  If not, please alert the Media Center staff immediately if there are any issues.

Remember to checkout www.lhsmediacenter.com/technologytools for a list of useful apps and websites.

If you find or lose an iPad, always alert the Media Center staff immediately.

If you owe for iPad repairs, please take care of those fees in the Media Center as soon as possible.
